Up Next: Evanston, Superbowl

The next two weeks bring up some of my favorite meets of the season: Evanston Masters and the St. Charles Superbowl meet.

I know there's a lot of interest in both of these meets, so here's a little bit of additional information to help you get going. First, if you haven't yet registered for Sunday's Evanston meet, there's still time. Evanston is accepting entries by email up until Saturday night. Information about the meet--which features the 400 IM--is available here. I've always felt that meet deadlines could be a little arbitrary, so hats off to Evanston for allowing the email option. (If you don't take advantage of the email entry, you'll be charged an additional fee when you go to deck enter.)

One meet you don't want to deck enter for is the upcoming Superbowl meet. If this year's competition is anything like years past, it will be the 2nd biggest Illinois meet of the short course season after State. That means there's a lot of bodies there.

Somehow, they do accept deck entries, but I really, really, really encourage you to send in your application by the entry deadline, which is this Friday. (If you dont send in your entry and try to deck enter, you'll end up waiting in the bull pen for an opening or a scratch, and never get seeded in the proper group.)  Here's the information.

One other thing: If you have questions or comments about either of these meets, or need to arrange for a ride, please add a comment to this post.

===========================================

Team Notes: Yesterday's practice was the biggest Sunday of the year so far, with at least 13 swimmers in the water. This is a really encouraging sign for our team, and a brings a whole new level to Sunday workouts.

Also: I want to give a special shout out to John Javorski, who's been writing the majority of workouts this season. John takes a very analytical approach to practices, balancing out stroke work, distance and sprints really well. (Yesterday's practice was one of the few Lactic Acid sets we've ever done--something that's been sorely missing from our practices.) If you ever need advice on your stroke, John is the guy to go to. He's a real asset to the team.
